Pulau Sapi
The gorgeous Pulau Sapi is small (25 acre) island in the Malaysian Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, just off the coast of Kota Kinabalu in Borneo. The pristine white sand beaches are lovely for relaxing in the sun (although there is shade if you so desire!) and the calm clear water is great for a dip or snorkeling. The rest island is covered by lush tropical forest which is inhabited by macaques and a variety of other animals. There are a couple of well sign-posted trails if you wish to explore the island further. As far as tourist infrastructure on the island; there are toilets, a picnic shelter, and a cafe. Overnight camping on the island is allowed but with the permission of the Park Warden.
Regular boat transfers are available to Pulau Sapi and the other islands in the National Park from the Jesselton Point ferry terminal in downtown Kota Kinabalu for ~RM3. The air conditioned waiting room and helpful employees at the terminal are a nice touch!
Daily connecting flights from Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and other regional hubs make getting to Kota Kinabalu a breeze. For accommodation check out the Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu, reasonably priced, right in the center of town and with sunsets to die for from the pool.
